Who we are
Brackenwick is a small studio that builds WordPress and WooCommerce websites. In this policy, ‘we’ and ‘us’ mean Brackenwick. We are responsible for the personal details described on this page, and you can reach us about any of it at hello@brackenwick.com.
What we collect
When you send the form on our contact page, we collect your name, your email address, your website address if you give one, and your message. The form also stores the IP address and browser details that came with your request.
When you email us directly, we receive your email address, the name shown on your email, and whatever you choose to write.
To stop spam, the form keeps scrambled (hashed) versions of your IP address and email address for up to 24 hours. Our security plugin also uses IP addresses and page requests to spot and block attacks on the site.
If you allow analytics cookies, Google Analytics records how this site is used: the pages visited, the rough location (country and city) worked out from the IP address, which Google Analytics does not store, the device and browser, and how the visitor arrived. We look at this only as combined statistics, not to identify you.
Why we use it
We use your details only to reply to your request, to prepare a written audit or quote if you ask for one, and to carry out any work you then hire us for. When you send the form, it also sends you one automatic email to confirm your request arrived. If you allow analytics, we use the statistics to see which pages are useful and to improve the site.
We do not add you to a mailing list, we do not send you marketing, and we do not sell or share your details for anyone else's marketing.
Our legal basis
Where data protection law asks for a legal reason to use your details, such as the GDPR in the European Union or the UK GDPR, we rely on our legitimate interest in replying to people who contact us and in keeping this site secure. When you ask for an audit or a quote, we also rely on taking steps at your request before a possible contract. Analytics cookies are used only with your consent.
Where your details are kept
This website and our email are provided by Hostinger. Form requests are stored in the website’s database and delivered to our inbox through Hostinger’s email service. The server that runs this site is in India, and pages reach you through Hostinger’s content delivery network, so your details may be handled in a country other than your own.
Wordfence, our security plugin, processes IP addresses to protect the site. If you allow analytics cookies, Google processes information about your visit for us through Google Analytics, which can happen in the United States and other countries. These providers handle the data only to run their services for us.
How long we keep it
We keep your request and our emails with you for as long as we need them to reply to you and to handle any project that follows. If your request does not lead to a project, we delete it once we no longer need it, and you can ask us to delete it sooner at any time. Security logs are removed automatically after a limited time. Google Analytics keeps visit statistics for 14 months.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask for a copy of the personal details we hold about you, and ask us to correct or delete them. You can also object to how we use them, or ask us to limit it. Email hello@brackenwick.com and we will reply within one month. We will not treat you differently for using these rights.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your details, you can complain to the data protection authority in the country where you live or work. We would appreciate the chance to put it right first.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle personal details, we will update this page and the date at the top.
